Holy and Awesome! Volume of the Zohar with Hundreds of Glosses – Possibly in the Handwriting of Rebbe Zusha of Anipoli?! In the margins of this sacred Zohar are hundreds of glosses—both lengthy and brief—possibly in the holy handwriting of the Rebbe, Rebbi Zusha of Anipoli. This volume of the holy Zohar belonged to the holy Rebbe, the Toras Chaim of Kosov. Antique inscription on the flyleaf states: ”This Sefer belongs to the Tzadik of Kosov.” A public notice issued by the heirs of his grandson, the holy Rebbe Moshe of Radovitz and Safed in 1902, contains a highly significant list of sacred items that remained in their possession after the Rebbe’s passing. Among them is noted: “Two volumes of Zohar, formerly belonging to the holy Rebbi Zusha, of blessed and saintly memory.” To this day, only one known manuscript in the handwriting of Rebbi Zusha is known to exist—a letter he wrote to the holy author of Degel Machaneh Ephraim. The handwriting in the glosses bears a notable resemblance to that known letter (a color reproduction of that letter is attached; one can observe that part of the writing was later reinforced with ink to strengthen the faded script). If so, this may cautiously be considered a monumental discovery! That the present volume is indeed the Zohar once owned by the Toras Chaim of Kosov, the very Zohar he inherited from Rebbi Zusha of Anipoli, and filled with glosses in his holy handwriting. It is possible that some of the glosses are in holy the handwriting of his father, the esteemed Ahavas Shalom of Kosov. Additionally, on the flyleaf, there is an elegant geometric drawing [compare to the copy of Tikkunei Zohar, Slavita printing, owned by the Toras Chaim of Kosov, which was sold in our auction on November 5, 2022, item 87, which also contained an identical geometric drawing]. On the front flyleaf, several old kvitlach are recorded. On the back flyleaf, there are inscriptions and calculations in the handwriting of his grandson, the Holy Rebbe Moshe Hager of Radovitz. The famous Holy Rebbe Chaim Hager of Kosiv (c. 1795–1854) was one of the most renowned Admorim of his generation. He was the son of the Ahavas Shalom of Kosiv and the father of the Tzemach Tzadik of Vizhnitz. His holy sefer Toras Chaim was published from a notebook that was placed by his bedside while he slept. He would awaken multiple times during the night to write down the revelations he received in his sleep. His work is entirely based on the writings of the Arizal, despite his humility in stating that he had no involvement in mystical studies. His grandson, the Admor Rebbi Moshe Hager of Radovitz (1840–1902), author of Vayikach Moshe, was the son of the Admor of Radovitz, Rebbi Yosef Alter Hager (1820–1879), who was the second son of the Admor Rebbi Chaim of Kosiv and the son-in-law of the Admor Rebbi Moshe Zvi of Savran. In 1873, his father, the Admor, immigrated to the holy city of Safed and appointed him as his successor in Radovitz. However, Rebbi Moshe Hager transferred the leadership to his son, Rebbi Yisrael, and himself ascended to join his father in the holy city of Safed. [8], 251, 2-11 Leaves. 20 cm.
