Sefer Or HaSechel, Midrash Bereshit Rabba, with the Rashi commentary and the "A.B.A." commentary by R. Avraham son of Asher of Safed (disciple of the Beit Yosef).


Only Edition. Venice: Giovanni Griffio, 1567.


On the title page, the Hebrew Bi-lingual stamps of 'נחום דובער פרידמאן' with the lion logo and a stamp of 'קנין כספי' which appeared in seforim he had purchased.


The Holy Rebbi Nachum Dov Ber Friedman [1844-1883] the son of the holy Rebbi Sholom Yosef of Ruzhin and the son-in-law of the holy Rebbi Avraham Yaakov of Sadigura, a great Torah and Chassidus Gaon. Lived his entire life in the court of his father-in-law in Sadigura. His large library contained many rare books and manuscripts and was one of the most important and renowned libraries of his time. The Gaon author of 'Yad Yehuda' the Rav of Sadigura writes in his foreword to his Sefer 'And when I came here to Sadigura I found what my soul loved in the house of my relative the Tzaddik Rav the son of the holy Nachum Dov who has a collection of rare books by ancient authors which is unparalleled.


He used to stamp his seforim with three stamps - Minchas Shai (gift), Yerushas Avos (inheritance), Kinyan Kaspi (bought with my money).


Giovanni Griffio's printer's device is featured at the foot of the title page (see: A. Yaari, Diglei HaMadpisim HaIvriim, p. 18, figure no. 30; and pp. 135-136)

Overall Good Condition, some marginal stains, couple small holes on title page affecting text on reverse, original leather binding rubbed.


Rabbi Abraham ben Asher was one of the sages of Aleppo and served as its rabbi at the end of the 16th century. Among the Jews of Aleppo, he was commonly referred to by the acronym "A.B.A." (Hebrew initials for: Abraham ben Asher).
