Unique Handwritten Letter from the Holy Rebbi Yankele of Pshevorsk – Simplicity and Humility. - ''....I will, God willing, give twenty thousand francs tomorrow, the 1st day of Rosh Chodesh Iyar, to the woman — may she live — who cooks our midday meal.” This humble and direct statement was handwritten by Rebbi Yaakov Leiser of Pshevorsk, affectionately known as “Reb Yankele” (1907–1998), the second Rebbe of Pshevorsk. He was the primary disciple of the holy Rebbi Chuneh Halberstam of Kalushitz. In 1930, he became engaged to Alta Bina, daughter of the famed Rebbi Moshe Yitzchak (“Reb Itzikel”) Gwertzman of Pshevorsk, and married her approximately five years later. Following his engagement, he served as Rabbi of Jaslisek (Western Galicia, now in Poland) for about five years, until shortly after his marriage. Upon the passing of his father-in-law Reb Itzikel in 1977, Reb Yankele succeeded him as Rebbe. Like his predecessor, he became renowned for his holiness, asceticism, and acts of charity, and Jews from across the world came to him seeking blessings and salvation. Miracles and prophetic insight were regular occurrences in his court, reminiscent of the legendary tzaddikim of old. He was especially known for his remarkable power through telling stories of tzaddikim, which often brought about supernatural salvations. He passed away on the 27th of Cheshvan, 1998, and was buried near his father-in-law in the Ohel in the Jewish cemetery in The Netherlands. His Torah teachings were published in the sefarim ”Imrei Yaakov” and ”Zechut Avot”. His son, Rebbi Leibish, serves as his successor.
