A Large Art-Deco Silver Hanukkah Lamp, Germany, Circa 1920 - This impressive Hanukkah lamp is a masterful work of early 20th-century silver design, firmly rooted in the Art Deco aesthetic of its time. Resting on four bold and sculptural paw feet, the lamp rises from a circular stepped dome base that supports an elegant upturned vase-shaped stem, tapering gracefully toward the branches. The design reflects the modernist spirit of the Art Deco movement, favoring clean, geometric forms. From the central cylindrical stem extend pipe-like branches—circular in form, emerging horizontally before turning sharply upward at a 90-degree angle—each terminating in beaker-shaped oil cups. All eight branches are uniformly aligned, carefully graduated in length so that their oil cups form a perfectly straight horizontal line, an architectural rhythm that emphasizes symmetry and balance. At the front of the upper stem is set a removable servant lamp (shamash), designed in the same beaker-shaped form as the oil cups, maintaining harmony in the composition. Crowning the top of the stem is a striking finial: a polished spherical knob mounted on a short stem with two flat circular discs, resting above a bell-shaped base—an understated yet distinctive Art Deco flourish.
