Through the window, the faint outline of a neighboring building can be discerned, placing the scene within a living townscape. In the background, a recessed wooden bookcase further emphasizes the scholarly environment. Alwin Arnegger (1883–1916) was an Austrian Impressionist and Modern painter, born in Vorarlberg. He studied philosophy in Vienna and Prague, but his artistic passion led him to painting, where he focused primarily on portraits and landscapes. His works often depicted the environs of Vorarlberg and Munich, blending realism with impressionistic sensitivity. Though his career was tragically cut short by his early passing, Arnegger left behind a legacy of deeply human portrayals, capturing both the physical likeness and inner spirit of his subjects.
