Description:

Miniature Siddur for the Entire Year, Venice 1617 – Extremely Rare!


Seder Tefillot for the entire year, according to the rite of the Sephardic community, with calendars for several years.


Venice, 1617. Printed under the auspices of Pietro and Lorenzo Bragadin, at the press of Giovanni Cajon.

All the prayers are vocalized. The instructions throughout the siddur are in Ladino. Parts of the Passover Haggadah are also in Ladino.

This siddur, according to the Sephardic rite, includes prayers for weekdays and Sabbaths, for new moons and festivals, Yotzrot, the Passover Haggadah, prayers for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, Hoshanot, and Yotzrot for Shemini Atzeret and Simchat Torah.

On folios 129–134 appears “Order of the Recital of Shema upon Retiring at Night, arranged by the holy man of God, our teacher Rabbi Moshe Cordovero, of blessed memory.”

At the end, [4] leaves with a calendar for the years 1618–1621.

Exceptionally Rare! Only one other copy is known, preserved in the Israel National Library. No copy has ever appeared at public auction.

 Very Good–Excellent Condition, Most of the book is on clean white paper, with light stains on the first and last leaves. Some leaves remain uncut, in their original state as they came from the press, antique leather on wood binding damaged & rubbed, front & back covers detached & lacking clasps.
