Item Overview

Description:

Mishnayot Seder Zera’im, Slavuta 1821 – Antique signature from the Halberstam family and dozens of lengthy scholarly glosses.

Mishnayot, Order Zera’im, with the commentary of the Ra’avad of Bartenura and Tosafot Yom Tov, together with notes by the holy Rebbi Levi Yitzchak of Berdichev.

Slavuta, 1821. Printed by the holy Rabbi Moshe Shapira of Slavuta.

With approbations from the holy Rebbi Avraham Yehoshua Heshel, the Ohev Yisrael of Apta, and Rabbi Chaim HaKohen, Av Beit Din of Pinsk.

On the title page appears the signature of one of the rabbis or rebbes of the Halberstam family (identity not yet determined). In the margins of the sefer are dozens (around 40) halachic glosses on complex topics from Tractates Kilayim, Orlah, etc., as well as several handwritten diagrams in Kilayim. In one gloss on Tractate Berachot, the writer concludes: “And it seems that thus said also my master A…, ” suggesting strongly that the author may have been a descendant of the Sanzer dynasty—though the precise identity could not be established. “Let the pure come and engage with the pure.”

Antique stamp: Chaim Shekna Balitzky.

[4], 132 Leaves. 26.5 Cm.

Overall Fair Condition, marginal stains, pages 33-37 have restorations affecting missing text, some marginal restorations, new brown leather binding
