Printed by Venturin Ruffinello, under the partnership of Meir ben Efraim of Padua and Yaakov ben Naftali HaKohen of Gazzuolo. At the top of the title page are the signatures of the Gaon Rabbi Mattityah Levi de Viale-Zechut, Rabbi of Alessandria della Paglia, son of Rabbi Moshe Zechut Levi (MZ”L). Rabbi Mattityah authored Zevach Todah (Livorno, 1829). [1], 81 leaves. 29 cm. The author was the uncle and teacher of Rabbi Yosef Caro, author of Beit Yosef. The sefer was printed during the Beit Yosef’s lifetime, and the printers wrote on the title page: “A commentary on the Torah by the all-encompassing sage, the honorable Rabbi Yitzchak Caro z”l, grandfather of the perfect and pious sage, the honorable Rabbi Yosef Caro, may he be blessed with life and success, of Safed in the Upper Galilee, may it be rebuilt and reestablished.” This error—that the author was the grandfather of the Beit Yosef—was repeated in all subsequent editions of the work.
