Early ownership inscription: From Yeshivat “Beit Zonahna” z”l [apparently referring to Beit Zonahna in Jaffa. In 1740, the Council of Officials in Constantinople established an inn near the port of Jaffa for Jews making pilgrimage to Jerusalem, which was the only functioning Jewish inn in the city for Jewish pilgrims. The building was also known as “Beit Zonahna, ” after Rabbi Yaakov ben David Zonahna, the Jewish patron who purchased it, and included a ritual bath.
