First Edition An early inscription on the title page, dating from the time of printing: “Belongs to the great luminary, a mighty stronghold and tower, sharp and expert, whose learning is pure and refined … the honorable Rabbi Yehuda Leib, may his lamp shine, until a new light shines upon Zion, amen.” On leaf A: the signature of Rabbi Yehuda Leib of Lissa, and the signature of Rabbi Naḥman Segal. [4], 94. [4] pages. 31.3 cm. The Gaon Rabbi Rabbi Gershon son of Rabbi Yitzchak Ashkenazi (1715-1693), one of the greatest rabbis and leaders of his generation, who raised many students. Born in Olaf (Germany), He was a student of the Bach, the Magini Shlomo and Rabbi Menachem Mendel, author of the Tzemach Tzedek Responsa (HaKadmon). Served as a Dayan in Kraków, and as Rabbi and Rosh Yeshiva in Prostitz and Nickelsburg (Moravia), Vienna (Austria). After the deportation of Austrian Jews, he became a rabbi and Av Beit Din of Metz (France).
