Yefeh Toar, Sulzbach 1688 - signature of the holy Rabbi Tzvi Hirsch Rottenberg of Tłuste? - Midrash Rabbah on the Book of Leviticus, with the commentary Yefeh Toar by the gaon Rabbi Shmuel Yaffe Ashkenazi. Sulzbach, 1688. Printed by Moshe Bloch. This early edition is extremely rare and, apparently, has never appeared at public auction. On the title page appears an early signature: “ Tzvi Hirsch Rottenberg. ” Is this the signature of the holy Rabbi Tzvi Hirsch Rottenberg of Tluste? The holy Rabbi Tzvi Hirsch of Tłuste (Tovste), son of the holy Rabbi Yehosef Rottenberg of Kozova, son-in-law of the Holy Rebbe Tzvi Hirsch of Zidichov. His son was the Holy Rebbe Yehosef HaLevi Rottenberg, founder of the Kossov (Kasany/Kasani) dynasty. His signature is exceedingly rare, and we were unable to obtain a specimen for comparison.
