Cremona, 1557 . First Edition. An abridgment of all the halakhot contained in Sefer Mordechai, arranged according to the order of Maimonides’ Mishneh Torah. Rabbi Yehoshua Boaz edited and printed Sefer Mordechai of Rabbi Mordechai ben Hillel Ashkenazi for the first time, adding his own glosses under the title Sheltei HaGiborim, and printed it together with the Rif approximately two years earlier in Cremona. Rabbi Yehoshua Boaz was among the leading sages of Italy in the generation following the expulsion from Spain. He also authored Ein Mishpat, Ner Mitzvah, and Torah Or, works still printed today in the margins of the Talmud in all editions. [2], 56 Leaves. 29.5 Cm. On page 33 stamp of Rabbi ”Moshe Chalfin”. Rabbi Moshe Chalfan Lifshitz (died Cheshvan 1830), a leader and influential person in the Warsaw community, father in law of the first Rebbe of Gur, Rabbi Yitzchak Meir Alter, author of ”Chidushei HaRim” and of Rebbe Menachem Mendel of Kotzk. The sefer ”Siach Sarfei Kodesh” brings many stories about Rabbi Moshe's great holiness. He was a disciple of the Maggid of Kozhnitz and the Chozeh of Lublin who were involved in the match with his son in law author of Chidushei HaRim.
