Variant. - A complete Tanach with the commentary of Rashi, comprising four sectional title pages and a general engraved copper title page, bound in original, impressive leather bindings with gilt edges. On the reverse of the illustrated title page, there are four specially printed rhymed lines, serving as an introduction to the signature of David Nunes Torres of Amsterdam.  Torah and Five Megillot: [1], 402 leaves. Neviim Rioshonim: 205 leaves. Neviim Achronim Prophets: [1], 207–500 leaves. Ketuvim: 310 leaves. At the end are 3 manuscript pages containing a table of the Haftarot according to various customs. 12.6 Cm.  This edition, with Rashi’s commentary, is considerably rarer than the parallel edition printed there that year. Rabbi David Nunes Torres was a preacher, thinker, editor, and publisher, and a member of the Portuguese-Sephardic community in Amsterdam. He was a disciple of Rabbi Isaac Aboab da Fonseca, and initially served as a preacher in the brotherhood Avi Yetomim and in the society Keter Shem Tov in Amsterdam. Toward the end of 1690 he was appointed rabbi of the Portuguese-Sephardic community in The Hague, where he served until his passing. He worked at the printing house of Immanuel Atyas in Amsterdam, where he served as a proofreader. Among the works he edited were the Amsterdam Bible edition of 1700–1705 and the edition of Mishneh Torah (Yad HaChazakah) of Maimonides, printed in 1700–1701. In 1707 he published critical glosses on the halachic novellae of the Samuel Eliezer Edels. He was also involved in several notable controversies with the rabbis of Amsterdam. He passed away in 1728..
