Rosh Hashanah Sermon in the Holy Handwriting of the Saintly Rebbi Tzvi Hirsch of Liska. - A written sheet, densely inscribed on both sides in approximately 72 lines, containing a Rosh Hashanah sermon entirely in the holy handwriting of the tzadik, Rebbi Tzvi Hirsch of Liska, a miracle-working righteous man beloved by Israel, and the foremost teacher of the famous Rebbe Yeshayele of Kerestir. Printed (with many variations!) in his holy sefer HaYashar VeHaTov, page 6 and onward. When the holy tzadik Rebbi Tzvi Hirsch of Liska delivered his sacred words, it was as if they were burning coals; his presence was awe-inspiring and holy: “Dressed in white, his face burning like coals and torches, appearing like an angel of God, his eyes closed upward, his hands outstretched over the heads of the children of Israel as a Kohen blesses in God’s name.” The sages said that in his sermons, he instilled courage and, through their power, stirred repentance and mercy in all who read them. The holy Rebbi Tzvi Hirsch of Liska [1858–1874] was among the greatest Hasidic tzadikim, revered and beloved. In his youth, he studied Torah under the guidance of the holy Tuv Gitin and Rabbi Avraham of Dembitz. He spent time in the shadow of great rebbes: the holy Yesamach Moshe of Ujheli, Rebbi Yisrael of Ruzhin, Rebbi Chaim of Sanz, Rebbi Shalom of Belz, and Rabbi Meir of Premishlan. At the urging of his teacher Yesamach Moshe, he began serving as rabbi and Rebbe in the city of Olaszliszka, where his fame spread widely, and thousands from across the land came to receive his holy blessing and guidance in faith. He performed miracles and bestowed abundant blessings and spiritual influence upon the people of Israel. His holy seforim Ach Pri Tevuah and HaYashar VeHaTov include printed versions of the present sermons. His foremost disciple, the holy Rebbi Yeshayele of Kerestir, always signed himself as “Having served in holiness under the holy tzadik of Liska, may his merit protect us.”
