Kabbalistic intentions for the Yom Kippur Avodah service, in the handwriting of the Gaon Rabbi Tzvi Hirsch Berlin, Av Beit Din of London. - Kabbalistic Kavanot for the order of the Yom Kippur Temple service, as presented in the sefer Mishnat Chasidim. These were preserved to this day in the Gaon's copy of the Siddur Shelah, alongside the Yom Kippur prayers. The renowned gaon Rabbi Tzvi Hirsch (Hirschl) Levin-Berlin (1721–1800), Av Beit Din in several prominent Jewish communities: Halberstadt, Glogau, Mannheim, London, and Berlin - an extraordinary and distinguished scholar, and one of the greatest rabbis of his generation. He was the son of the gaon Rabbi Aryeh Leib, Av Beit Din of Amsterdam, son-in-law of the Chacam Tzvi, and the brother of Rabbi Shaul of Amsterdam, author of Binyan Ariel. In the yeshiva he founded studied disciples who later became leading sages of Israel, including Rabbi Leib Eiger and Rabbi Leib Berlin. Around 1772, he was appointed rabbi of the capital city of Berlin, a position he held with distinction for 27 years. He was involved in the great controversy between his uncle Rabbi Yaakov Emden and Rabbi Yonatan Eybeschütz, and wrote several essays supporting his uncle. He was among the leading figures who stood firm against the early Haskalah movement. Among his works: Tzvi LaTzaddik, Tzava Rav, Lecḥem Shamayim, and others.
