Two sides. 21 × 17 cm. The Holy Gaon Rabbi Mordechai Leib Winkler (1845–1932), Av Beit Din of Mád, was a distinguished disciple of Rabbi Abraham Samuel Benjamin Sofer. He served as rabbi of Mád in Hungary and headed a prominent yeshiva, disseminating Torah to thousands; among his disciples were many leading scholars and halachic authorities. Tradition relates that he merited a revelation of Elijah the Prophet. He was regarded as one of the foremost halachic decisors of his generation, and as one of the three principal pillars of halachic authority in Hungary, alongside Rabbi Yeshaya Silberstein and Rabbi Shimon Greenfeld. He passed away in 1932 and is best known for his works Levushé Mordechai, responsa and novellae on the Talmud.
