Pocket Edition of Tractate Sukkah. Amsterdam, 1739. Printed by the Orphans of Solomon Proops. - Babylonian Talmud, Tractate Sukkah - A special traveler's edition printed as a separate tractate for the convenience of those on the road, rather than as part of a complete Talmud set. Amsterdam, 1739. Printed by the Orphans of R. Solomon Proops. This compact edition was designed specifically for travelers. Each leaf corresponds to a page of the standard Talmud edition, allowing for easy reference and study. A distinctive feature of this printing is that the novellae of the Maharsha are printed alongside every page of the tractate, rather than being gathered at the end of the volume, as was customary. The printers proudly note on the title page: “Behold and see the beauty and excellence of this workmanship, the like of which has never existed in the small tractates printed until now. Nothing is lacking from what appeared in the great Amsterdam Talmud edition...” An early ownership signature appears in the volume: “Pethahiah Yehudah Leib Grunes.” Present are 112 and 19 leaves, from a total of 112 and 26 leaves originally issued. 20 cm.
