Olelot HaBatzir, novellae in halachah and aggadah arranged according to the weekly Torah portions. Only Edition, Livorno 1779. - Sefer Olelot HaBatzir, containing novellae in halachah and aggadah according to the order of the Torah portions, by Rabbi Yosef Tzvi Hirsch of Preshitik. Only Edition. Livorno, 1779. Printed by Palloni Vincenzo. With important approbations from the rabbis of Livorno: Rabbi Chananyah Mazal Tov ben Yitzchak Chaim Bondi, Rabbi David Malach, and Rabbi Meir ben Pinchas Sanguinetti; Rabbi Aryeh Leib ben Chaim, rabbi of Poznań; Rabbi Eliezer Kalir, rabbi of Rechnitz; Rabbi David Chaim Hassan of Jerusalem; and Rabbi Gershon Chayot ben Avraham of Burkenstadt, rabbi of Mattersdorf. On the verso of the title page appears the license of the communal leaders of Livorno, in Portuguese, dated April 25, 1779. The author, Rabbi Yosef Tzvi Hirsch ben Shlomo Zalman of Preshitik, Poland served as rabbi of Margolin near Poznań. The introduction to this sefer is the sole source for his biography, from which it emerges that he suffered from false denunciations that forced him to flee his city. During his wanderings he preached publicly in the communities of Poland, Hungary, Holland, and England, earning the admiration of the leading Torah scholars he encountered. Thus he eventually arrived in Livorno, where he printed his work. The sefer was especially well received among Sephardic sages, including Rabbi Eliyahu Mani, the Yosef Chaim of Baghdad, and others, who cite the novellae of “the author of Olelot HaBatzir.” [2], 70 leaves. 29.7 Cm.
