First Edition of Kitzur Alsheich al HaTorah, by the Gaon Rabbi Yosef ben Rabbi Aryeh Leib. Amsterdam, 1748. - Sefer Kitzur Alsheich al HaTorah. a concise digest of the Torah teachings of the holy Moshe Alsheich as presented in his monumental work Torat Moshe. Compiled by the gaon Rabbi Yosef ben Rabbi Aryeh Leib. First Edition. Amsterdam, 1748. Printed by the press of the heirs of Rabbi Shlomo Proops. The author, Rabbi Yosef ben Rabbi Aryeh Leib, was the son of Rabbi Zechariah Mendel, Av Beit Din of Belz. In his introduction, he explains that he prepared this work for those who wished to study the teachings of the holy Alsheich but lacked the ability or time to follow the full discussions, questions, and lengthy introductions found in the original. He therefore gathered, “like gleanings from the harvest, ” the principal conclusions and essential teachings of the Alsheich’s classic Torah commentary, Torat Moshe. Despite being a “summary, ” the work was printed in very small and densely packed type, containing a remarkable amount of material in a relatively compact volume. In the same year, the author also issued another edition in a smaller format, though with approximately twice the number of leaves. [1], 67 leaves. 21 cm.
