The Only Approbation of the Holy Kotzker Rebbe: Even Moshe. Warsaw, 1859. - Sefer Even Moshe—the only sefer to bear the approbation of the holy Rebbi Menachem Mendel of Kotzk (”the Seraph of Kotzk”). The approbation was granted during the final year of his life. Warsaw, 1859. Even Moshe contains the Torah teachings of Rabbi Moshe ben Rabbi Yaakov Aharon of Brisk, including novellae on the Torah, Prophets and Writings, the Talmud, and the halachic codes, as well as a number of homiletic discourses on various subjects. The work was brought to press by his son, Rabbi Eliezer. This volume contains the only known approbation issued by the holy Rebbi Menachem Mendel of Kotzk. The Kotzker Rebbe also subscribed in advance to support the publication, together with all of his sons and his son-in-law, the future author of Avnei Nezer of Sochaczew. It also includes the approbation of the author of Chiddushei HaRim, who likewise subscribed in advance. The approbation was written in 1859, the Kotzker Rebbe's final year, while the sefer itself was printed only after his passing. Accordingly, at the head of the approbation he is still referred to with the blessing for the living, shlita (”may he live a good long life”), whereas in the list of advance subscribers (prenumeranten) printed at the end of the volume he is already designated ztzukl”h (”of saintly and blessed memory”). The work also bears numerous approbations from leading Polish rabbinic authorities and Chasidic masters, including Dov Ber Meisels, Rabbi Yeshaya Muskat, Yitzchak Meir Alter while serving in Warsaw, and Meir Auerbach, among others.
