Extremely Rare Hasidic Work! Kehillot Yaakov. First Edition, Lemberg, 1852. A Disciple of the Author of Da'at Kedoshim. - Sefer Kehillot Yaakov, a commentary on the Book of Ecclesiastes (Kohelet), by Rabbi Shmaryah Shmeril Branderis of Hermilov. Only Edition. Lemberg, 1852. An extremely rare Chasidic work! That has appeared only once at public auction. The author, Rabbi Shemaria Shemeril Branderis (1780–1857), son of Rabbi Yaakov, served as Av Beit Din of Trembovla and Rimalov (two towns in the Ternopil district of present-day Ukraine). He was a leading disciple of Rabbi Avraham David of Buchach, author of Da’at Kedoshim, and of Rabbi Ephraim Zalman Margolies, author of Mateh Ephraim. He immigrated to the Land of Israel in 1852, and five years later passed away in Jerusalem, where he was buried on the Mount of Olives. His position in Hrimalov was filled by his son Rabbi Yosef Meir, Av Beit Din of Oschia. His brother, Rabbi Tzvi Hirsch, was a follower of Rebbi Yisrael of Ruzhin. He was the author of this work as well as Iyun Tefillah, and was among the leading rabbis of Jerusalem who signed, in 1856, the ban (ḥerem) against schools of the Haskalah (see further: Me’orei Galicia, vol. I, pp. 618–619). 30, [2] Leaves. 17.6 cm.
