Baishi Qi (1864 – 1957) - Qi Baishi (1864 – 1957): Basket of Chrysanthemums with a Grasshopper. Hanging scroll, traditionally mounted in brocade, ink and colour on paper, entitled 延年 ('Yan nian', Longevity) in two large seal-script characters at upper right, inscribed and signed 八十八歲白石 ('Baishi at the age of eighty-eight'), with a second signature 白石又畫 ('Baishi painted again'), with three seals of the artist: Qi Baishi (齊白石), Jieshan weng (借山翁, 'Old Man of the Borrowed Mountain') and Wu nian bashiba (吾年八十八, 'I am eighty-eight years old'); together with one further illegible sentence-seal at lower left, probably a studio or later collector's seal. Datable to 1948.
