Petros Malayan(Armenian, 1927 - 1997) - Petros Malayan (Armenian, 1927 - 1997), 1984, watercolour on paper, signed and dated on verso, 61 x 83 cm. Condition On request Notes Petros Malayan Armenian artist. Honored artist of the Armenian SSR. He graduated from the Baku Art School (1941-1945), studied at the painting faculty of the Repin Academy of Arts in Leningrad (1945-1947) under the guidance of B. Vogelya, L. Ostrova, L. Ovsyannikova. Then he moved to Yerevan and continued his studies at the Yerevan Art and Theater Institute (he studied under A. Bekaryan, V. Shakaryan), which he graduated with honors in 1951. Eventually he was invited to stay and teach drawing. First personal exhibition P. Malayana opened in 1966 in the halls of the House of Artists of Armenia. Работы П. Malayana was also demonstrated in Czechoslovakia, Poland, Mongolia, Cuba, Belgium and Iraq. In 1971 he was a participant in the biennale of socialist countries ”Szczecin-71”, as well as the international symposium ”The Way of Copernicus”, organized by the Olsztyn Union of Artists (Poland). P. Malayan was awarded a commemorative medal of this symposium. He was also awarded a diploma of the Union of Artists of the USSR for participation in watercolor painting exhibitions. In 1983, he received the title ”Honored Artist of the Republic of Armenia”, and since 1990 he was a professor of the drawing department at the Yerevan Art Institute. The artist's works are in the collection of the National Gallery of Armenia, in various museums of Russia, Bulgaria, and also in private collections.
