Rudolf Khachatryan (Armenian, 1937 - 2007) - Rudolf Khachatryan (Armenian, 1937 - 2007), oil on masonite, signed l.l., 60 x 50 cm. Notes Rudolf Khachatryan was an Armenian painter and graphic artist, born in Yerevan. He began his artistic training at the Yerevan Art College and, from 1955, exhibited widely in both national and international exhibitions. From 1960, he was a member of the Artists’ Union of the USSR and later of Armenia. From 1971, Khachatryan lived and worked in Moscow, developing a distinctive artistic language across painting and graphic media. He is particularly noted for his innovative use of sepia and sanguine on levkas, creating painterly compositions that bridge drawing and painting. His oeuvre includes portraits, still lives, and landscapes, as well as monumental works such as murals for the Alaverdi railway station. Khachatryan received numerous distinctions, including a bronze medal at the World Festival of Youth and Students in Vienna (1959), the First Prize of the Ministry of Culture of the Armenian SSR, and the titles of Honored (1977) and People’s Artist of the Armenian SSR (1984). In 2002, he was elected a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Arts. His works have been exhibited internationally, including in Moscow, London, Los Angeles, and Yerevan, and are held in major museum collections and private collections in Armenia and abroad.
