Babken Kolozyan (Armenian, 1909–1994) - Babken Kolozyan (Armenian, 1909–1994), ”Still Life”, oil on card, signed and dated 1943 l. r. and on reverse, 66 x 54 cm. Notes Babken Kolozyan was born in Yerevan and received his early artistic education at the Yerevan Art College. He later continued his studies at the Ilya Repin Institute of the Academy of Arts in Leningrad, where he trained in the studio of Alexander Osmerkin. Upon returning to Yerevan in 1939, Kolozyan became an active participant in republican, all-union, and international exhibitions. Alongside his artistic practice, he devoted much of his career to teaching, first at the Yerevan Art College and subsequently at the Yerevan Institute of Fine Arts and Drama, where he served as professor and head of the painting department until his retirement. In the early 1970s, he settled in Saghmosavan, Armenia, where he lived and worked until his death. Awarded the title of Honored Artist of Armenia, Kolozyan holds an important place in Armenian art of the 20th century. His works are preserved in the National Gallery of Armenia, in the collections of the Ministry of Culture of Armenia, and in numerous private collections.
