Notes Khachatur Hakobi Yesayan, a distinguished Armenian artist, was born on August 29, 1909, in the city of Kars, nestled in Western Armenia. His educational journey commenced at the Yerevan State Institute of Theatre and Cinematography (YEGT), from which he graduated in 1931. Subsequently, in 1938, he pursued advanced studies at the Moscow Institute of Energy. Yesayan’s career unfolded across a spectrum of artistic domains, reflecting his innate versatility and profound talent. From 1940 to 1948, he assumed the mantle of principal artist at the State Azerbaijani Theater in Yerevan, leaving an indelible mark with his creative contributions. Moreover, between 1941 and 1949, he imparted his expertise as a faculty member at the theater department of the Yerevan Painting Institute, nurturing the artistic aspirations of future generations. In 1965, Khachatur Yesayan was bestowed with the prestigious title of People’s Artist of the Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic (SSR), a testament to his enduring impact on Armenian art and culture. A noteworthy milestone in his career occurred in 1968 with the publication of the album “Monuments of Armenia, ” a collection of his paintings venerating the rich cultural heritage of his homeland. During the years 1968 to 1970, Yesayan held the esteemed position of principal artist at the Opera and Ballet Theater named after Alexander Spendiaryan, further cementing his stature within the Armenian artistic milieu. Several of Khachatur Yesayan’s acclaimed works find sanctuary within the hallowed halls of the National Gallery of Armenia, preserving his artistic legacy for posterity to cherish and admire.
