Cantagalli dish in Iznik style - Cantagalli dish in Iznik style Italy, Florence, 19th century Ceramic body, with a shaped rim, made by the Cantagalli factory and inspired by 17th-18th century Ottoman Iznik models. The polychrome floral decoration in blue, green and red on a white background evokes the Islamic Ottoman tradition. The reverse bears the 'rooster', the maker's mark of manufacture. Ulisse Cantagalli (1839-1901) founded the Manifattura Cantagalli in Florence in 1878 together with his brother Giuseppe. Cantagalli examples in the Oriental style are part of the collections of renowned museums (for an example see MET, New York, Acc. no. 02.5.24) and regularly sold through international auctions (for an example see Christie's London, 21 October 2016, lots 208 and 213).
