A Nishapur-style decorated bowl - Ceramic body of truncated shape, inspired by the refined production of Nishapur (North-Eastern Iran) flourished between the 10th and 11th centuries. The inner surface is decorated with an inscription in kufic script arranged radially, according to an ornamental taste typical of the period. The text reads: اﻟﻌﻘﻞ أﺻﻞ اﻷدب واﻷدب ﻣﺮآة اﻟﻌﻘﻞ 'Reason is the basis of good education, and education is the mirror of reason.' In form, technique and calligraphic repertoire, the piece is reminiscent of the Persian glazed ceramics of the Samanid era. h. 11 X diam. 33 cm
