Part of silver armour (Chandi ka kavach) - Part of silver armour (Chandi ka kavach) India, 19th - 20th century Sheet silver depicting the feet of a Hindu deity, identifiable with Vishu due to the position of the limbs and the jewellery adorning them, typical of Vishnu 'Lord of the World' (Jagannatha). Precious metal coverings, typically of silver, called armour, were applied to statues of deities as votive offerings, ritual decoration or protection and often commissioned and donated by wealthy devotees. Armour can be partial, or total to protect the entire figure. They may also be composed of several separately finished parts.
