Bronze ritual lingam with stone complement. - Bronze ritual lingam with stone complement. India, 19th century Aniconic depiction of Shiva, characterised by a hollow interior, guarding the stone representing the abstract, energetic presence of the deity. The presence of the central hole at the base suggests that the object could have been attached to a plinth, perhaps originally inserted into a yoni, the support that usually accompanies the lingam and represents the goddess Shakti in union with the male element. Provenance: Central Italy collection. H. 8.5 cm
