A devotional bronze figure of Lakshmi on a lotus throne - A devotional bronze figure of Lakshmi on a lotus throne Southern India, 18th - 19th century Votive sculpture depicting the deity seated in padmasana on a lotus throne and enclosed by a large ritual torana decorated with floral motifs and scrolls. Lakshmi is identifiable by the presence of iconographic attributes, particularly the shankha (shell) symbolising the primordial sound of creation, cosmic purity and the ordering power of dharma. The figure is adorned with a multi-layered conical headdress (mukuta) and ring-shaped earrings. Provenance: Central Italy collection. H. 10.5 X 7 cm
