Bronze devotional figure of Hanuman triumphing over a demon - Bronze devotional figure of Hanuman triumphing over a demon Northern India, 19th century The monkey-headed god is depicted in a dynamic posture. His right hand raises the gada (mace), symbol of his invincible strength, while his left hand bends towards his chest. The deity's body is adorned with earrings, necklaces and bracelets. The presence of three figures - not clearly identifiable - within the composition gives the sculpture an element of originality comparing to iconographic tradition: one on the front at his left leg, another on the back of the same limb and the last lying on the ground. Hanuman is a pivotal figure of the Ramayana text and a divine archetype of devotion, strength and loyalty. Provenance: Central Italy collection. H. 9.5 X 7.5 cm
