Devotional bronze figure of Bala Krishna on a Pippala Leaf - Devotional bronze figure of Bala Krishna on a Pippala Leaf Southern India or Maharashtra, 18th century Depicting the infant variant of the deity, shown lying on a leaf of the Ficus religiosa while sucking the big toe of his right foot. This iconography, deeply rooted in devotional (bhakti) tradition, refers to the cosmological myth in which the young Krishna, having survived the destruction of the world, floats in the primordial void on a sacred fig leaf, containing the entire universe within himself. The figure shows multiple suspension holes, suggesting it was originally part of a larger ensemble. The surface bears a rich dark patina and traces of ritual powder.
