Devotional bronze figure of Lord Vishnu seated in padmasana - Devotional bronze figure of Lord Vishnu seated in padmasana Eastern India, Orissa, 18th century Depicting the deity in his iconographic caturbhuja form, literally 'four-armed', seated in padmasana on a plinth carved with lotus petals, a symbol of cosmic purity. The figure has a hieratic face with marked features, almond-shaped eyes and a compact build. Vishnu is represented with his traditional attributes: the disc (chakra), the conch (shankha), the mace (gada) and the lotus (padma), placed in the four hands, according to the canons of the Vaishnava cult. The tall cone-shaped headdress (kirtimukuta) refers to regional models widespread in the cult of Vishnu and Jagannatha. Provenance: Central Italy collection. H 10 X 6.5 cm
