Gilded silver bowl and container for edible lime (Pan-Dan) - Gilded silver bowl and container for edible lime (Pan-Dan) India, Deccan, 18th-19th century Set consisting of a hemispherical bowl with a rim adorned by a continuous double gilded band. The inner base is embellished with a circular engraved motif featuring vegetal and floral elements, executed with chasing and hammering. The bowl was used to mix betel leaves with edible lime, which was stored in the cylindrical container that completes the set. The two ends of the cylinder are decorated with knobs in the shape of stylized lotus flowers; one of the caps is screwable and, once open, reveals multiple tiny perforations for dispensing the powder contained inside.
