Four Court Portraits - Four Court Portraits India, 19th - early 20th century Four paintings on paper, presumably from a now lost album. Two of the portraits depict male figures, identified by inscriptions in Devanagari characters as: Badshah Babur founder of the Mughal Empire and Shri Maharaja Uday Singh of Mewar famous for his resistance to the Mughals and father of the legendary Maharana Pratap. The two female figures represent, respectively, Jodhabai Khanum and Badi Khan, both noble figures of imperial rank. On the verso of each miniature there is a calligram in nasta liq on a red or brown background in Persian or Urdu, possibly of a auspicious or commemorative character.
