Painting depicting a temple scene with Krishna and Radha - Painting depicting a temple scene with Krishna and Radha Northern India, mid 19th century Miniature painted in mixed technique on cardboard, depicting the divine couple formed by Krishna and Rada embracing at the centre of a pavilion surrounded by garlands and gold decorations. To the left of the couple is a Brahmin performing puja by raising a ceremonial object in deference; to the right is a devout Maharaja, with his hands joined in prayer. The architectural setting with framed windows and idealized flourishes in the background contributes to the construction of a sacred and symbolic space, an expression of the link between earthly power and the divine sphere.
