Painting depicting Maharao Ram Singh of Kotah - Painting depicting Maharao Ram Singh of Kotah North India, Kotah School, 19th century Gouache and gold on paper, depicting Ram Singh, Maharao of Kotah from 1828 to 1866. The ruler is portrayed in profile, seated on a European-style chair, dressed in sumptuous robes and gaudy jewellery, including a ceremonial sword. Behind him are two attendants with fly swords. The celebratory portrait is contained within an architectural backdrop with a folded up drape and the identity of the subject is confirmed in the inscription in Devanagari script written in white ink in the upper frame of the painting.
