Painting depicting the Coronation of Rama (Shri Rama Pattabhishekam) - Painting depicting the Coronation of Rama (Shri Rama Pattabhishekam) South India, Tamil Nadu, Thanjavur, 19th century Tempera painting and stucco applications on fabric mounted on panel, as prescribed by the tradition of the Thanjavur school of painting. The subject is narrated in the epic poem of the Ramayana and is unusual compared to the more common themes with Krishna as a child as the protagonist. The composition is crowded and features a polylobed aedicule with Rama enthroned in the centre, flanked by deities and attendants gathered for the event.
