Illuminated frontispiece from Indo-Persian manuscript Kitab-i Waqa'i' (Book of Events) - Illuminated frontispiece from Indo-Persian manuscript Kitab-i Waqa'i' (Book of Events) Northern India, 18th century Persian text on paper later applied to cardboard. Text in naskh and nasta liq calligraphy arranged in several registers and with polychrome floral decorations and gilded spacing in the central portion. The central cartouche bears the title in reserve on a gilded background decorated with stylized arabesques, while the portion to the right of the title is illuminated on a cobalt blue background. The body of the central text is composed in verse, with a poetic structure and Persian lexicon in a moralizing tone. Inclined and marginal sections continue the same text or accompany it with glosses. The 'Book of Events' is a poetic collection, possibly of Sufi or philosophical inspiration, related to the transmission of moral maxims, edifying tales or chronicles imagined in poetic form. cm 23x16
