A faded signature on the title page: ”שמואל בראך” Next to it, the signature of his son: ”יחיאל מיכל בראך” The righteous Gaon Rabbi Shmuel Barach (1854–1919) was among the foremost disciples of the Mahara”m Shick. At the request of his Rebbe before his passing, he edited and published the Mahara”m Shick’s major Sefer on the 613 commandments in two parts. His name appears on the title page of both parts. He also wrote a short introduction and appended at the end of the second part his own kuntres, Poter Mayim, on the laws of Mikvaot. He was close to the Rebbes of Sanz and Sighet. In 1894, he was appointed rabbi of Nir-Mada, serving until his passing. From his surviving writings, the Sefer Zikaron Shmuel (New York, 1999) was published. His brother-in-law was the famed righteous Gaon Rabbi Shaul Barach, Av Beit Din of Kashau.
