. - A rare and important letter on communal affairs and charity, written by the Gaon Rabbi David Tzvi Schenfeld, one of the prominent rabbis of Romania and a disciple of the holy Rabbi Chanoch Henich of Alexander, sent to Rabbi Shmuel Salant of Jerusalem. At the end of the letter, he blesses him with “a good and sweet year.” [1] Postcard, entirely in his own handwriting, with his seal. Rabbi David Tzvi Schenfeld (1865 – 27 Kislev 1936), son of the righteous Rabbi Yitzchak Eizik, one of the rabbis of Bârlad, was born from the blessing of the holy Sar Shalom of Belz. From a young age he was noted for his greatness and exceptional humility. He married Rebbetzin Perl, daughter of the righteous Rabbi Yitzchak Eizik Schor, Av Beit Din of Bucharest. He frequently traveled to his relative the holy Rabbi Chanoch Henich of Alexander, son-in-law of the Sar Shalom of Belz. On one occasion, the Lev Sameach of Alexander asked his assistant if Rabbi Schenfeld had arrived and requested that he be brought in. Due to the crowding, they had to bring him in through a window. He also traveled frequently to the Ahavat Yisrael of Vizhnitz. He was accepted as Av Beit Din and dayan of Roman and had a close friendship with the Av Beit Din Gaon Rabbi David Isaakson. After the passing of his father-in-law, he was called to fill his place in Bucharest. Initially he declined due to the city’s weak spiritual state, but after much urging he accepted the position and was received with great honor. He was known as an exceptional Baal Darshan. He spent his entire life studying Torah in modesty. He was buried to the left of his father-in-law in Bucharest, and his grave is preserved to this day. Small tear in the upper corner.
