Additional writing of the birth date in German. Wimpel, a band which was sewn from the swaddling cloths used at a baby’s Bris. A few years later, when the child was weaned, or when he began to study Alef-Beis, or when he turned Bar Mitzvah, the cloth was brought to Shul and the boy was honored with wrapping up the Sefer Torah with it. These Wimpels were later kept in the Sanctuary and served as a communal record of the births. This Wimpel is highly decorated and finished in a higher standard than common in those days. An assortment of colors, well-scribed lettering, drawings of fish, a marriage canopy and a Sefer Torah, as well as other impressive and beautiful designs. The cloth is edged with an additional dark-red cloth which keeps the cloth from fraying and is very well preserved. A bit of the edges are creased. Insignificant age stains. Single, slight tears. Good-very good condition.
