Long Letter in the Handwriting and Signature of the Admor, the Righteous Rabbi Meir Leifer of Cleveland – Brooklyn, Av 1934 ”מברך אותך בהרמת קרנך ומזלך בכל מיני הצלחות גדולות, ותזכה לקבל נחת מכל בני ביתך היקרים יחי' ותוושע ממעון הברכות בכל מיני ישועות טובות” The Admor, the Righteous Rabbi Meir Leifer of Cleveland (1881–1941), was the son of the Righteous Rabbi Bertzi of Satmar and the grandson of the holy Rabbi Mordechi’le of Nadvorna. During World War I, he moved to Budapest, where he opened a kitchen for the hundreds of Jewish refugees in the city. Since during the war he assisted Jewish young men in evading the draft and hid deserters in his home, the authorities put him on trial, and he fled to America. In 1922, he arrived in America and settled on the East Side, where he served as the Nadvorna Admor. After several months, the Jews of Cleveland — where there was a large concentration of Hungarian immigrants — requested that he move to their city, and there they established for him a Beit Midrash named “Chevra Shomrei Shabbos.” His brother was the Tzidkas Yosef of Pittsburgh.
