Stenciled copy, “Ish HaHalachah, ” booklets VI–VII, by the Gaon Rabbi Yosef Dov HaLevi Soloveitchik Two booklets from the analytical work “Ish HaHalachah” by the Gaon Rabbi Yosef Dov HaLevi Soloveitchik, presenting the unique religious model embodied in the path of the man of Halachah and the Talmud. Chapter VI: 4 stapled leaves. Chapter VII: 11 stapled leaves. Ownership signature: 'מ. שטמר' With a handwritten glossary of terms. The chapters before us, dealing with the ideal world of the man of Halachah, would later be printed with additions and expansion in the journal Talpiyot, year I (booklet 3–4, p. 665 onward), New York, 1944, and would be included in the Sefer B’Sod HaYachid VeHaYachad (1976, from p. 64) and in the Sefer Ish HaHalachah — Galui V’Nistar (1979, from p. 28). Thus, before us is the first edition of these chapters from the work “Ish HaHalachah.” The Gaon Rabbi Dr. Yosef Dov HaLevi Soloveitchik, the Gr”yd (1903–1993) — among the greatest Rabbanim and thinkers of American Jewry. Son and disciple of the Gaon Rabbi Moshe Soloveitchik, grandson of the famed Gaon Rabbi Chaim of Brisk. In 1932 he received a doctorate in philosophy from the University of Berlin and immigrated to the United States, where he served as Rav in Boston and as Rosh Yeshiva of “Rabbeinu Yitzchak Elchanan.” He engaged in communal needs and produced many disciples. Wear and minor defects along the edges of some leaves. Good condition.
