Manuscript “Bichel, ” Chabad — From the Late 1800s and Early 1900s — Containing Mostly Sichot and Ma’amarim of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, the Rayatz, Transcribed During His Lifetime — Including the Ma’amar “Vayehi Be’Etzem HaYom HaZeh” (1923), the First Iteration of the Famous Ma’amar Ba’ati LeGani, with the Added Citation of the Rayatz’s Well-Known Remark About the Greatness of This Ma’amar Included within the Bichel is a Chassidic Shmuess on Chanukah (non-Chabad). In the Bichel before us were transcribed several very select Ma’amarim of the Chabad Rebbes, among them: at the beginning of the notebook, the Kuntras Bad Kodesh, attributed to the Alter Rebbe (or to the Mitteler Rebbe); the well-known letter of the Alter Rebbe following his release from imprisonment, sent to his Mechutan the holy Rabbi of Barditchov; the renowned letter of the Tzemach Tzedek on the subject of joy; the Ma’amar Dibbur HaMatchil “HaYam Ra’ah” of the Alter Rebbe (printed in Likutei Torah, Parashat Tzav); a Ma’amar of the holy Rabbi Hillel of Paritch; “Yechayenu” (based on a Ma’amar heard from his Rebbe, the Tzemach Tzedek, printed in Pelach HaRimon); and the Ma’amar “Ki Yikarei Ken Tzipor” by the Tzemach Tzedek (printed in Ohr HaTorah). In the middle of the Bichel is a Chassidic Shmuess, “Chanukah Hu Tikkun HaTohu.” From its style and content, it appears not to be from Chabad. After it, several Sichot in Yiddish from the 1920s–1930s by the Rebbe Rayatz were transcribed, including two lines not printed. Following this is the transcription of the Ma’amar “Vayehi Be’Etzem HaYom HaZeh Yatzu Kol Tzeva’ot Hashem Me’Eretz Mitzrayim” by the Rayatz, from 1923. At the end, the copyist (named Avraham Yehoshua) notes that: “Regarding this Ma’amar, the Rebbe shlit”a said to the righteous Chassid Rabbi Yechezkel Feigin that it is a Ba’al-HaBayis’er Ma’amar, meaning that through this Ma’amar one can become a master over the Nefesh Ha'Behamit.” [In his final days, in Shevat 1950, the Rayatz reedited this Ma’amar, divided it into twenty chapters, with small changes, omissions, and additions, under the title “Ba’ati LeGani Achoti Kallah”, and prepared it for printing to be studied on Shabbat Parashat Bo, 10 Shevat (the Yahrzeit of his grandmother Rebbetzin Rivkah a”h). The Ma’amar went to print on Friday, 9 Shevat, and was delivered to the Rayatz by his son-in-law, the Lubavitcher Rebbe, that same day. The following morning, on Shabbat, his soul ascended Heavenward. Since then, every year on 10 Shevat, the Lubavitcher Rebbe said a Ma’amar on one chapter, explaining it with extraordinary depth, each year a different chapter in sequence.] At the end of the Bichel is the transcription of a Bar-Mitzvah derasha written by the Gaon and Chassid Rabbi Moshe Treshchansky, Rabbi of Kremenchug and one of the distinguished Chassidim of Chabad, for his grandson Rabbi Chaim Ozer, author of Al Avoteinu Ve’Al Yichusam. The derasha was written in Sivan 1941 (the original manuscript was photographed in that Sefer, p. 71 ff.). [47] leaves (most written on both sides). 21 cm. General condition good–fair.
