From the Treasures of the Author of Tiv Gittin — Sefer Seder Mishnah, First Part, Commentary on Sefer HaMadah from Mishneh Torah by the Rambam, by the Gaon Rabbi Wolf HaLevi of Boskovice (son of the Machatzit HaShekel) – Prague 1820 – First Edition – The Exampler of the Gaon Rabbi Tzvi Hirsch Heller, Author of Tiv Gittin – With Handwritten Glosses On the front protective leaf: ”להגאון אמתי המפורס' מ' צבי הירש העללר אבד”ק אובן” The Sefer contains five handwritten glosses. It is possible that they are in the handwriting of the author of Tiv Gittin. The holy Gaon Rabbi Tzvi Hirsch Heller, known as “Reb Hirschel Charif” (1776–1834) — author of Tiv Gittin, one of the greats of the generation in the era of the Gaon Rabbi Akiva Eiger and the Chasam Sofer (who, as known, in his third marriage wed the widow of Rabbi Tzvi Hirsch). Born in Zamość, Poland. In his youth, he lived in Rawe and studied Torah in chavrusa with the holy Rabbi Shalom of Kaminka. His sharpness became known to the Gaon author of Baruch Taam, and through his influence, Rabbi Tzvi Hirsch was appointed Av Beit Din of Brigel in Galicia. From there, he was appointed Rosh Metivta in Brody. Among his students were luminaries of the generation: Rabbi Moshe Tovish (author of To’afot and Karnei Re’em), the author of Shu”t HaRamtz, and the author of Kitzur Shulchan Aruch, Rabbi Shlomo Ganzfried. Later, he was Av Beit Din and Rosh Yeshiva in the communities of Ungvár and Bonyhád.
