The mighty, wondrous Gaon Rabbi Yosef Rozin of Dvinsk (1858–1936) – universally known as “the Rogatchover” – was recognized in his generation and beyond as one of the greatest Gaonim to arise in Klal Yisrael. Many sent him their halachic questions, and he would answer immediately, Be’ein with astounding references drawn from the breadth of the Talmud. He was a foremost halachic authority, and his method of study was primarily according to the Rambam. He served as the Chassidic Chabad-Kapust Rav in Dvinsk. The righteous Gaon Rabbi Shlomo Ganzfried (1804–1886) – famed Rav of Ungvar, disciple of the Gaon Rabbi Zvi Hirsch Haller, author of Tiv Gittin. In his youth, he studied in Chavruta with the Holy Admo”r Rabbi Tzvi Hirsch of Liska. In 1843, he became Rav of Berezovitz, and in 1850 was appointed Av Beit Din of his birthplace, Ungvar, until his passing. He authored numerous Sefarim, including Keset HaSofer, Torat Zevach, Lechem VeSimlah, Aheli Shem, and is best known for his foundational work Kitzur Shulchan Aruch, printed 14 times in his lifetime. At age 20, the Chasam Sofer wrote of him: “He performs wonders, a lofty Tzaddik.” Rabbi Shimon Sofer wrote: “I merited to behold his pure countenance and receive his blessing.” At age 30, he first printed his renowned treatise on Sta”m, Keset HaSofer, receiving an enthusiastic approbation from the Chasam Sofer, who wrote: עיינתי בו ועברתי בין בתריו מרישא לסיפא והנה כלך יפה רעיתי מום אין בך. מכוון להלכה ע”ד האמת... אני פוקד על כל תלמידי המחויבים לשמוע בקולי שמיום הדפסת הספר 'קסת הסופר' הלז... מכאן ואילך לא יתנו רשות וכתב קבלה לשום סופר כי אם שיהיה בקי בספר הזה ורגיל על לשונו... וסופר שאינו בקי בספר הזה יופסל מאומנותו With the stamps of the Holy Rabbi Meir HY”D, son of the Holy Rabbi Yissachar Ber Leifer. Killed Al kiddush Hashem in the Holocaust. A descendant of Rabbi Meir of Premishlan and of the Admorim of Nadvorna and Kalish. Partially worn binding, stains, one leaf lacking, and one leaf duplicated. Medium–good condition.
