Dedication by the Shedei Chemed, with two lines in his holy handwriting, originally attached to the first edition of his sefer. [Krasubazar, 1891]. ”Token of the love of friends” – given by Rabbi Chaim Chizkiyahu Medini, together with his sefer Shedei Chemed. [Krasubazar, 1891]. [1] printed leaf, with the recipient’s details filled in by the author’s own handwriting: the philanthropist R. Simcha ben R. Eliyahu HaLevi Feinaltz, and bearing the stamp of the Shedei Chemed. The great Gaon Rabbi Chaim Chizkiyahu Medini (1833–1905) – one of the leading Acharonim. Born in Jerusalem, he studied Torah under the Chacham Bashi Rabbi Yitzchak Kubo and Rabbi Yosef Chaim Burla. In 1867, he was appointed Rav of Krasubazar in Crimea, where he began composing his monumental halachic encyclopedia Shedei Chemed. In 1899, he returned to Eretz Yisrael after thirty-three years in Crimea, first settling in Jerusalem and later moving to Chevron, where he founded a yeshiva. Upon the passing of the city’s Rav, Rabbi Chaim Rachamim Yosef Franco, he was appointed as Rav of Chevron. Fold at one corner, slight ink smudging, very good condition.
