Letter from the committee overseeing the tithing of fruits and vegetables in Yerushalayim, signed by the Lithuanian Tzaddikim of Yerushalayim: the Gaon Rabbi Abba Yaakov Hakohen Boruchov, author of Chevel Yaakov, the Gaon Rabbi Avraham Elyashiv, and the Gaon Rabbi Yechiel Mechel Mushkin. 1929. In the letter, the Rabbonim ask that until their representative, Rabbi Zissel Chabas arrives in Teveriah, Rabbi Yitzchak Kaplan should be paid. The letter was written by a third party, and is signed with their signatures and the stamp of the committee, was written on the reverse of a pre-printed request for donation from the “Committee Selected by the Great Convention of the Great Geonim, the Rabbonim Who Sit in Judgement, Great in Torah and Piety, Uniquely Exalted , Pious and Complete Torah Scholars, Honored Leaders of Our City, May It Be Rebuilt, and the Beis Din of Here Shlita”. The request states that as per the decision of the great convention, each household in Yerushalayim is required to pay a certain amount for the upkeep of the committee to ensure the proper tithing of fruits and vegetables and the keeping of Shabbos in the city, and solicits these funds from the recipient.
